Introduction
We are a venture-backed company, founded in 2004 by startup veterans with deep experience in network management, telecom, and embedded systems.
At Packet Island, our mission is to deliver next-gen network management solutions that replicate the success of HP Openview in today's new world of distributed converged media networks.
With our solutions, we aim to bring the "plug-and-play" simplicity and the "carrier-grade" reliability of the traditional telephone networks to Voice-Video-Data networks. The way we accomplish
this is by our revolutionary SaaS-capable platform, called PacketSmart. This platform enables us to move past the traditional discrete, polling-based network management model (i.e. SNMP) to a continuous,
real-time flow-based network management model, with massive scalability to meet the needs of today's outsourced business models.
Our Customers
Our customers are companies who have to deliver and manage Voice-Video-Data services to a large number of customer locations with minimal expert staff. This includes VoIP/video service providers, MSPs, and SaaS providers delivering services built on a foundation of VoIP and video. Multi-site enterprises with a large number of branch offices deploying VoIP and Video also benefit immensely from our products.
Our Value Proposition
To service providers, our value proposition is two-fold: Reduce support costs and churn by gaining continuous visibility into the underlying end-to-end network used to deliver converged media services. Second, increase revenues, by leveraging the data gained from this continuous visibility to deliver value-added managed services to end customers.
Our value proposition to multi-site enterprises is similar - Increase RoI by deploying and delivering trouble-free converged media services without requiring an army of IT experts.
The basis for our value proposition is the fact that the future of communications and IT will be dominated by services built on a foundation of VoIP, Video, and Data. However, there are huge problems when it comes to deploying such converged media services today. A CompTIA survey found that over 60% of small and medium businesses using converged media were having monthly disruptions, with over 70% of these problems materially impacting business.
Many of the early successful converged media deployments were accomplished by over-engineering the end-to-end network. But, with VoIP and Video entering mainstream deployment today, the over-engineer-and-deploy methodology is not an affordable choice anymore - especially when multiple sites are involved.
To make matters worse, the traditional network management solutions which were built for data networks are inadequate when it comes to monitoring and diagnosing problems in today's converged media networks. Packet Island has solved this problem with PacketSmart. With PacketSmart, we provide a management solution that uses the flow-monitoring paradigm to detect and isolate even the most transient of issues. This is accomplished by an architecture that has the massive scalability to continuously monitor individual converged media flows on a sub-second basis from hundreds of thousands of networks in real-time. Advanced correlation engines provide reporting that now simplifies problem resolution by mining the large volumes of data.
