"Remote packet capture
and real-time flow
analysis are essential
for providing visibility
into complex issues
on our converged media
network.

Without Packet Island,
our 25+ site VoIP
deployment would not
be working at all"

- Drew Middleton,
Network Admin,SIXLS

PacketSmart-Lite provides small and mid-sized enterprises with the industry's most cost effective all-in-one solution for managing their converged media/UC networks. This solution is ideal for IT and network administrators deploying VoIP on their data networks and have a need to answer the following questions:

*How do I pre-assess my data network for VoIP readiness?
*How do I verify if my inter-site WAN is ready for VoIP?
*How do I verify if my network's QoS design supports VoIP?
*How do I troubleshoot transient VoIP+Data issues?
*How do I monitor my converged network for capacity planning?
*How do I periodically assess my LAN/WAN for VoIP readiness?
*How do I locate congestion sources causing VoIP degradation?
*How do I troubleshoot complex protocol issues at branch sites?

PacketSmart-Lite consists of three components:

PacketSmart-Lite software pre-installed on a Dell server
Set of five micro-appliances
PacketSmart GUI

Each micro-appliance is a small 4" x 5" fail-safe device that acts as a sniffer and call generator, deployed either in in-line or span-port configuration. Micro-appliances are typically deployed one per branch office or one per subnet. The PacketSmart server platform is a Dell server pre-installed with the Packetsmart application server. This server controls the micro-appliances and collects, correlates, and summarizes data collected by them in real-time. The PacketSmart GUI is a comprehensive java application that allows for control of the micro-appliances and visualization of large volumes of real-time data. Put together, these three components combine the functionality of VoIP assessment, VoIP call monitoring, traffic flow monitoring, Netflow-like top-N flow monitoring, and Wireshark-compatible remote packet capture into a single product for less than US$8000.
